Abstract

This article aims to present aspects of the existential cycle of the Monte Azul Community Association from its formation in 1979 until the year 2000. During this period, the institution developed a concept of human and professional development with the aim of valuing the protagonism of each participant in its history: the Social Workshop School. This concept sustains the life of the institution. The objective of this article is to present the path of collective construction of the Mainumby Community Educators Course, included in the Social Workshop School. To fulfill the stated objective, the article presents excerpts from testimonies collected in in-terviews and focus groups, as well as the collection and analysis of documentary records. These principles are: the individual construction of knowledge based on personal experience, the equivalence of various types of knowledge and the col-lective construction of the process. It is about giving voice to the participants in the history that underlies and explains the emergence of the course as a collective construction, generated through the congregation of people from many regions of the country and the world, from different social classes, presenting a diverse and unequal panorama that, far from being considered antagonistic, was perceived as complementary in understanding the healthy social process and in the search for innovative paths in education.
