From essence to shape
the art path in Rudolf Steiner schools
Keywords:
artistic creation process, art elements, art teaching, Waldorf educationAbstract
This article aims to investigate a coherent path in the creation of an artistic image that can be applied in a pedagogical process. In order to do so, one seeks to understand the universal principle of creation as described in different cosmogonies, as well as in the pedagogical indications given by Rudolf Steiner. One comes to a process that can be divided into three steps called essence, ambience and shape, in which the elements of the visual arts (point, line, surface, light/darkness, color and volume) will be worked in their essence or abstraction form, in its ability to create ambience and, finally, in its figurative expression. It concludes that this principle can give a structure for an art class conception and the creation of exercises, providing a coherent process and a logic that helps the skills acquisition by the students.
