Abstract

Waldorf Education is complex and comprehensive, and it is present in many countries and locations. “Brincando em Casa”, an educational space located in Manaus/Amazonas, which has been developing pedagogical work inspired by Waldorf Education since 2018, represents a seed and an expansion of this pedagogy to the most diverse contexts. This innovative space has developed, through studies and practices, an annual calendar based on the seasons and the culture of Northern Brazil. This report presents the experience of the process of creating two specific seasons, Rainy Season and Summer, based on the remarkable cycle of river floods and droughts — natural phenomena that affect the social and economic life of the population. This report explains the choices that led the “Brincando em Casa” collective to adopt a calendar closer to our context and describes some of the experiences provided to children during the aforementioned periods, as well as presenting a summary of our current calendar. The concept of rhythm, present in Waldorf Education, inspires us to be in harmony with nature, natural manifestations are diverse around the planet; the goal and action of “Brincando em Casa” is to continue learning about the forest and regional cultural richness to be increasingly closer to our context.
